Update on Project Remediate – Cladding Product Safety
In response to the Grenfell Tower fire of 2017, the NSW Government established the NSW Cladding Taskforce which works in conjunction with the Fire + Rescue NSW (FRNSW) to assess buildings which may pose a risk due to unsafe cladding.
Traditionally, the removal of cladding is a significant cost borne by the Owners Corporation, resulting in high-cost special levies that impact the buildings’ viability both in terms of safety and value.
Project Remediate is a government initiative to assist in Owners Corporations in tackling these costs. Eligible owners will be supported by interest free loans over a 10-year period with repayments commencing upon completion of the work.
Buildings which have been identified to have high-risk combustible cladding will have been contacted by one of three entities such as the:
Local Council;
Department of Planning, Industry and Environment; or
NSW Cladding Taskforce
If you believe your building is impacted and has not been identified, the Owners should contact the local council or consent authority to discuss the status of the cladding.
Project Remediate is a voluntary program and Owners can choose to arrange their own remediation work.
Registration for the Project Remediate is open until 30 September 2021.
